Timbercoat Intumescent Basecoat

Price range: £129.28 through £503.99

Thermoguard Timbercoat Insulating Basecoat is an intumescent coating for timber and timber-derivative surfaces. It is used where you need to control surface spread of flame and reduce fire propagation on internal wood substrates.
How it works
In normal conditions it looks and applies like a paint coating.
When exposed to heat and fire, Thermoguard Timbercoat expands (intumesces) to form a thick insulating char layer. This barrier helps protect the timber by reducing heat transfer and limiting the oxygen available at the surface.

Description

What it does
Thermoguard Timbercoat Insulating Basecoat is an intumescent coating for timber and timber-derivative surfaces.
Where to use it

Bare timber

Previously painted timber (once properly prepared)

Timber derivatives such as plywood, MDF and similar boards (where suitable preparation and priming have been completed)

Typical areas include walls, ceilings, soffits, doors, panelling, joinery, and other internal timber surfaces where improved fire performance is required.
Coverage and build
For Class 1 and Class 0 systems:

Apply 2 coats of Thermoguard Timbercoat

Coverage: 7 m² per litre per coat (two coats required)

Coverage can vary depending on surface texture and absorbency. For best results, keep application consistent and avoid stretching the product too far.
Overcoating
Thermoguard Timbercoat must be finished with:

Thermoguard Flame Retardant Topcoat

Available in Gloss or Eggshell

The topcoat helps complete the system and provides the required finish and durability.
Certificate of Supply
Thermoguard can issue a Certificate of Supply for each project, on request. This can be used to support project paperwork for:

Insurance

Fire and Building Control Authority requirements

Client records and handover packs

If you share the project details and specification at the time of order, we can help make sure the correct system is supplied and recorded.
