Description
Fire Retardant Varnish Overcoat (Interior)
Thermoguard Fire Retardant Varnish Overcoat Interior is the decorative finishing stage of the Thermoguard Fire Varnish System for timber and wood-based surfaces.

How The System Works
- The Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat provides the primary intumescent fire protection layer.
- The Overcoat seals and protects the system while enhancing appearance.
- Under fire conditions, the system reacts to heat and forms an insulating barrier.
- This helps slow flame spread, heat transfer and smoke development across the timber surface.
Finish & Colour Options
- Available in matt, satin and gloss finishes.
- Clear varnish options preserve the natural wood appearance.
- Woodstain shades available including Light Oak, Teak, Pine, Walnut, Mahogany, Rosewood and Ebony.
- Designed to complement both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Application Information
- Apply only over correctly installed Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat.
- Suitable for brush, roller and spray application.
- Ensure timber surfaces are clean, dry and properly prepared before application.
- Do not apply in high humidity or excessively cold conditions.
- Allow the basecoat to dry fully before overcoating.
Surface Preparation
- Timber moisture content should normally not exceed 18%.
- Previously varnished or sealed timber may require abrasion to improve adhesion.
- Surfaces must be free from grease, dust and loose material.
- Always test adhesion on unusual substrates before large-scale application.
Good To Know
- This product is not intended to be used without the matching Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat.
- Clear finishes help retain the natural appearance of timber.
- Woodstain colours may deepen slightly depending on timber species.
- The final fire rating depends on the complete system build-up.
- Thermoguard can provide Certificates of Supply for qualifying projects.
Need Fire Protection Without Painting Over Timber?
Many fire protection systems hide the natural beauty of wood beneath thick opaque coatings. Thermoguard Fire Retardant Varnish Overcoat is designed for projects where preserving the visual character of timber is just as important as achieving fire performance.
Need Help Choosing The Correct Timber Fire Protection System?
Different timber surfaces and fire ratings require different system build-ups. If you are unsure whether you need the interior or exterior varnish system, contact the Thermoguard technical team before ordering.
