Description
Wallcoat 30/60 Minute Basecoat
Thermoguard Wallcoat 30/60 Minute Basecoat is a specialist intumescent coating designed to upgrade plasterboard and cement board wall and ceiling systems to achieve certified 30 or 60 minute fire resistance.
Forming the primary fire protection layer within the Thermoguard Wallcoat system, the coating reacts during fire exposure by expanding into an insulating char barrier that helps protect underlying substrates against heat penetration and flame spread.
The system is designed for interior walls and ceilings within commercial, residential and public buildings where modern fire performance standards are required.
What It Does
- Provides the primary intumescent layer within the Wallcoat fire protection system.
- Helps upgrade plasterboard and cement board constructions to achieve 30 or 60 minute fire resistance.
- Expands during fire conditions to create an insulating char barrier.
- Helps reduce flame spread, smoke development and heat transfer.
- Works beneath Thermoguard WallGuard Smoke & Flame Retardant Topcoat.
Why Choose Wallcoat 30/60 Minute Basecoat?
- Certified fire protection: designed for projects requiring tested 30 or 60 minute performance.
- Ideal for refurbishment projects: can be applied over sound, firmly adhering existing paint systems.
- Modern fire standards: designed to achieve EN Class B s1 d0 and Class 0 performance.
- Smooth decorative finish potential: designed to work beneath decorative Thermoguard topcoats.
- Water-based technology: low odour and easier to apply internally.
Where It Can Be Used
- Interior plasterboard walls
- Plasterboard ceilings
- Cement board systems
- Partition walls
- Commercial and public buildings
- Communal hallways and stairwells
- Refurbishment and compliance upgrade projects
Ideal For
- Schools and colleges
- Hotels and hospitality projects
- Commercial refurbishment works
- Residential apartment buildings
- Public buildings
- Social housing upgrades
- Walls and ceilings requiring modern fire performance standards
Fire Performance
- Can achieve 30 or 60 minute fire resistance within approved systems.
- Tested to BS EN Class B s1 d0 standards.
- Compliant with Class 0 requirements.
- Provides smoke protection performance within the complete system.
- Certification depends on correct specification, coverage rates and topcoat application.
How The System Works
- During fire exposure, the coating rapidly expands.
- The expanded char layer forms an insulating barrier over the substrate.
- This barrier helps slow heat transfer and flame penetration.
- WallGuard Smoke & Flame Retardant Topcoat completes the decorative and protective finish.
- The complete system is designed to improve compartmentation fire performance on walls and ceilings.
Compatible Topcoat
- Thermoguard WallGuard Smoke & Flame Retardant should be used as the finishing coat.
- Available in matt and eggshell decorative finishes.
- Strong or dark colours may require additional topcoat coverage.
- The full Wallcoat system is required for tested certification.
Application Information
- Apply 3 coats at the specified coverage rate for 30 or 60 minute systems.
- Suitable for brush, roller or spray application.
- Touch dry in approximately 1 hour under normal conditions.
- Normally overcoatable after approximately 4 hours.
- Do not overspread the coating, as this compromises certification performance.
Surface Preparation
- Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, smoke residue and contamination.
- Loose or unstable coatings should be removed back to a sound edge.
- Hard glossy paints should be abraded to improve adhesion.
- Repair damaged surfaces using suitable fillers before coating.
- Seal stain risks using suitable water-based compatible primers where necessary.
Environmental Conditions
- Recommended application temperature range: 8°C to 30°C.
- Relative humidity should normally remain below 75%.
- Surfaces should remain free from condensation during application and curing.
- Ensure substrate temperature remains above dew point conditions.
Good To Know
- This product forms part of a complete Thermoguard fire protection system.
- WallGuard Smoke & Flame Retardant Topcoat is required to complete certification.
- Coverage rates are critical to achieving fire resistance performance.
- Suitable for many existing painted plasterboard systems where coatings remain sound and firmly adhered.
- Thermoguard can provide project-specific specifications and Certificates of Supply for qualifying projects.
Need To Upgrade Existing Walls & Ceilings Without Major Replacement Work?
Many older plasterboard and ceiling systems no longer meet modern fire performance expectations. Wallcoat 30/60 Minute Basecoat is designed to help upgrade existing wall and ceiling constructions without the disruption and cost of full replacement.
Need A Wall & Ceiling Fire Protection Specification?
