Thermoguard systems guide

Approved Product Systems

Some Thermoguard products are part of a tested system and must be used together. Where a product system is shown below, the correct basecoat and topcoat combination is required for the specification we would certify.

Important: Certification depends on the correct full system being used, the correct substrate, and the correct application rate. Buying one product alone does not automatically mean the full fire-rated system has been achieved.

Steel Systems

Systems for structural steel and external steelwork where the correct basecoat and topcoat combination is required.

Steel

Thermocoat Steel System

Choose the correct Thermocoat basecoat for the steel type. Add the required topcoat where specified.

Basecoat options

Thermocoat WI
I-beam / column steels
OR
Thermocoat WO
Hollow section steels
OR
Thermocoat S
Up to 90 minutes of fire resistance for structural steel and cast iron.

Required topcoat

Flame Retardant Topcoat
Required where the specification calls for a protective finishing coat
Required for specification: For Thermocoat S on external steels, Flame Retardant Topcoat is always required. For visible steel or steel subject to damp, the topcoat is also required.

Timber & Door Systems

Grouped systems for timber walls, ceilings, cladding and fire door upgrade systems where the full tested build-up matters.

Timber

Timbercoat System

For timber walls, ceilings and cladding where the tested basecoat and dualcoat topcoat are both required.

Basecoat

Timbercoat Insulating Basecoat
Basecoat for timber system - class b fire rating only
Timbercoat Insulating 30/60 Basecoat
Can achieve 30 or 60 min fire rating

Required topcoat

SFR Dualcoat
Smoke & flame retardant dualcoat
Required for specification: To achieve the tested performance, use both products in the system. Do not substitute products outside the approved build-up.
Doors

Door Paint System

For painted timber doors where the basecoat and topcoat work together as part of the fire upgrade system.

Basecoat

Timbercoat 5kg
Door paint system basecoat

Required topcoat

Flame Retardant Topcoat
Protective finishing coat for the painted door system
Required for specification: Certification depends on the correct door type, coverage and full system build-up being used.
Doors

Door Varnish System

For varnished door systems where the correct basecoat and interior overcoat are both required.

Basecoat

Fire Varnish Basecoat
Basecoat for the varnish door system

Required topcoat

Fire Varnish Interior Overcoat
Required finishing coat for interior varnished doors
Required for specification: Use the full varnish system only where it matches the tested substrate and application guidance.
Varnish

Fire Varnish System

For timber where the fire varnish basecoat must be used with the correct finishing overcoat.

Basecoat

Fire Varnish Basecoat
Basecoat required in the varnish system

Topcoat options

Required for specification: Both basecoat and overcoat are required. Choose the overcoat to suit internal or external use.

Walls & Ceilings

Systems for walls and ceilings where the tested combination of basecoat and finishing coat is required.

Walls

Wallcoat System

For walls and ceilings, including plasterboard, where the basecoat and finishing coat form a tested system.

Basecoat

Wallcoat Insulating Basecoat
Basecoat for wall and ceiling systems
Wallcoat 30/60 Insulating Basecoat
Basecoat for wall and ceiling systems to achieve 30 to 60 minutes

Required topcoat
