Thermoguard Wallguard Smoke & Flame Retardant Topcoat

A specialist, water-based finish that completes the Thermoguard Wallcoat upgrading system for walls and ceilings. Available in Acrylic Matt or Acrylic Eggshell.

What it does

Finishes the Thermoguard Wallcoat system with a durable decorative topcoat.
Helps the full system achieve BS EN Class B s1 d0 when applied as instructed.
Supports compliance with British Standard Class 1 and Class 0 surface spread of flame requirements (where still accepted).

Where to use it

Interior walls and ceilings, including previously painted “multi-layer” surfaces in communal areas.
Typical locations include corridors, stairways and entrance lobbies, where fire performance is critical.

How to specify the system

To achieve BS EN Class B s1 d0, inspect and prepare in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, then apply:

1 coat of Thermoguard Wallcoat Insulating Basecoat
1 coat of Thermoguard Wallguard Smoke & Flame Retardant Topcoat (Matt or Eggshell)

For 30 or 60 minutes fire resistance, use the Thermoguard Wallcoat 30 & 60 Minute System.

Fire testing and certification

Tested at a UKAS fire test laboratory.
Achieved BS EN Class B s1 d0 and certified to EN 13501 on multi-layer painted, high-risk Class 4 surfaces.
A Fire Certificate can be issued on request for correctly specified projects, subject to proof of purchase. Certified protection is dependent on following instructions and using suitable surfaces.

Finish, colours and availability

Finishes: Acrylic Matt or Acrylic Eggshell
Colours: 4,000+ shades from RAL, BS and NCS
- Excludes metallic and fluorescent shades
Strong or dark colours may require 2 coats for opacity. Thermoguard Wallcoat Insulating Basecoat can be supplied in a suitable undercoat shade unless instructed otherwise.
A clear version is available for special applications, but must be recommended by our Technical Team before use. Clear matt can look cloudy over very dark backgrounds, so test first.
Thermoguard Wallcoat basecoat is White Matt only.

Good to know

The Fire Safety Order 2005 places duties on those responsible for buildings to manage fire risk. Multi-layer paint systems can increase surface spread of flame risk, even on non-combustible substrates.
Class 0 is still seen in specifications, but BS EN Class B s1 d0 is the more rigorous standard, including smoke and droplet control.
