Door Enquiry
Assessment of existing timber doors where a fire-performance upgrade may be required.
Important: most modern internal doors cannot be upgraded to achieve 30 minutes fire resistance. Where replacement with a fire-rated door set is not an option, such as in a listed building, Thermoguard Timbercoat Insulating Basecoat or Thermoguard 2K Fire Varnish Basecoat with the correct topcoat may be suitable only in specific circumstances.
- The door must be able to afford approximately 2 mm loss to charring.
- Suitable doors may include solid, joint-free compressed-core doors with substantial veneer faces, or well-seasoned older/sturdy doors.
- The legacy survey guidance refers to sturdy doors with frames around 35 mm+ thick and panels around 10 mm+ thick.
